Is there anything more hypnotic than watching waves crash against the rocks? One of my favourite things to do in St Ives was walk around the Island watching the Atlantic roll in and break over the rocks. I love that moment when the deep blue-green sea turns the most incredible bright turquoise as it churns around the cliffs, with great swathes of white foam against the dark and rusty brown rocks.
I just had to try to recreate those colours and contrasts in a piece of jewellery. I found these incredible natural blue sky jasper beads and this one could almost have been made for the job. Its earthy browns echo the rocks, while flashes of turquoise blue run right through it like the sea below. I paired it with a piece of my handprinted aluminium in bright turquoise to capture the colour of the waves as they break against the cliffs. The aluminium is set in a brushed silver setting and I’ve added a hammered silver circle to complete the cluster necklace.
The jasper bead spins freely, revealing different colours and markings on each side, while the three elements move and jangle as you wear it. It feels wonderfully tactile as well as being completely one of a kind.
