Nothing says autumn quite like a conker does it? Always reminds me of conker fights at school and the urban myth that they keep spiders out of your house. I’ve tried it. It doesn’t work.

There’s always something ridiculously pleasing about finding a rich brown, smooth, shiny conker on the ground. I see plenty of them as there are two horse chestnut trees in my lane so the ground underneath is strewn with them in autumn. Impossible to resist picking at least one up or is that just me?

So when I found this weighty oval mushroom jasper bead, it looked uncannily like a conker. And there was only one thing I could do - turn it into a necklace.

I’ve paired the jasper with a zesty green hand dyed aluminium oval to represent the conker shell, then added one of my handmade silver circles to complete the cluster. The bead itself is wonderfully different on both sides and swivels on its handmade silver loops.

It’s a tactile, chunky necklace, perfect for anyone who loves bold jewellery inspired by nature. It would also make a lovely gift for anyone who can’t resist coming home from a walk with a conker in their pocket.

The mushroom jasper polished oval bead is approx 31x23x6mm in diameter , the aluminium hand set in silver is approx 24x16mm and the silver circle is approx. 15 mm in diameter. The necklace comes with an 18” sterling silver ball chain.
