For ages I had no idea what this lanky plant growing beside the river behind my house was called. I see it all the time at one of my favourite spots and eventually discovered it’s purple loosestrife. Which is slightly confusing because, to my eyes at least, those tall spikes of tiny flowers are much more magenta pink than purple.
 
It’s particularly lovely when there’s a breeze and the long stems start to sway. The colour seems to change with the light too, from bright pink when the sun shines through the flowers to a much richer magenta in the shade.
 
Those colours were just asking to become jewellery. For these earrings I’ve used my hand-dyed anodised aluminium in magenta pink for the flowers and green for the leaves. The simple blocks of colour let that combination of pink and green do all the work.
 
They’re lightweight and easy to wear, with plenty of movement from the long silver wires. Treat yourself if you love colour and nature-inspired jewellery, or give them as a one-of-a-kind handmade gift to someone who does.
