The walk along the South West Coast Path from Zennor to St Ives nearly killed me, but that’s another story. Think boulders to scramble over, uneven rocky steps and quite a lot of “where the hell is the path?”. But wow, it was worth it. We saw red-billed Cornish choughs flying over the headlands, wildflowers blowing in the breeze and those incredible panoramic views. And we hardly saw another soul. Cornwall at its wildest best.
When we paused for a much-needed rest, you couldn’t help but marvel at the contrast of the blue sea, brown cliffs and green landscape dotted with silvery-grey rocks. It was one of those views that made the exhausting walk completely worth it.
When I got home, I wanted to reimagine what I’d seen in a piece of jewellery. I found these incredible natural blue sky jasper beads in earthy browns with flashes of turquoise blue running through them, like the sea and cliffs. I paired one with a piece of my handprinted aluminium in soft green tones to represent the grassy headland. It’s printed with irregular silvery lines which remind me of the grey rocks peeking through the grass. The aluminium is set in a brushed silver setting and I’ve added a hammered silver circle to complete the cluster necklace.
There’s so much of that stretch of wild Cornish coastline captured in this necklace, from the earthy colours to those little flashes of blue and silver. The jasper bead spins freely, revealing different colours and markings on each side, while the three elements move and jangle as you wear it. It feels wonderfully tactile as well as being completely one of a kind.
